a glamorous 1960s walborg evening bag, made in japan by hand, worked in a freeform tangle of gold, silver, and black metallic ribbon and lamé over a beaded black ground. the soft frame pouch gathers into a polished gold-tone kiss-lock frame with ball clasp and hangs from a delicate gold curb chain, opening to a black satin lining. walborg was one of the mid-century's go-to names for occasion bags, importing beautifully hand-finished evening pieces (this one carries the coveted "made in japan by nona" workshop label) and selling them through better u.s. department stores through the 1950s and 60s. the loose ribbon-work surface catches the light from every angle, a true cocktail-hour piece.
