a plump little ladybug brooch from hattie carnegie, one of mid-century america's most collected costume houses. the domed wings are paved edge to edge in tiny faux seed pearls and flecked with red spots, opening over a glossy orange faux-coral belly, while a fat pearl head, green rhinestone eyes and textured gold legs finish the bug with real character. hattie carnegie's figural critters were made to be a little witty and a little luxe at once, and this one delivers on both. signed on the back in the raised oval cartouche.
