the look
a beautiful 1970s embroidered caftan in ecru cotton gauze, worked with bold red and blue folk embroidery: paisley and leafing vines across the yoke, a banded central panel down the front, and stylized blossoms at the hem, cuffs, and back. a laced neckline with soft tassels opens the round collar, and the long full sleeves carry their own embroidered borders. embroidered gauze caftans like this came out of the 1970s appetite for handcraft and ethnic dress, often made in greece, india, or the eastern mediterranean for the boho and resort wardrobe, and the airy open-weave cotton with dense floss embroidery is exactly the format collectors look for. it falls long and loose, made to move with you.
please note: the gauze is sheer and lightweight by nature, with light age.
