A rare mid-century Gucci weekender, this exceptional vintage Gucci bag is a pre-Birkin era design, dating to the 1950s-1960s, and crafted entirely from thick, structured saddle leather with all original brass hardware, functional Gucci padlock, two “Made in Italy” keys, and matching leather luggage tag intact.

Structured yet elegant, this carry-on showcases Gucci’s equestrian heritage through its belting-style front flap, rolled top handles, and rich patina developed over nearly 70 years. The interior is fully lined in leather and includes one large satin-lined zip pocket, and the base is protected by original brass feet. 

All hallmarks of authentic vintage Gucci are present: “Made in Italy by Gucci” stamping, embossed lock and hardware, and heavyweight saddle stitching throughout. The exterior is vegetable-tanned leather with a rich, chestnut patina that speaks to its age and authenticity. The flap closure is secured by leather straps and a working brass turn-lock stamped “CCI,” a known quirk of early Gucci markings. It includes two original keys (both marked “Made in Italy”), a rare intact leather clochette, and an original Gucci paper-labeled luggage tag. This level of completeness is virtually unheard of in bags of this age.

This is a genuine heritage Gucci Valigeria travel piece, made during the house’s golden age of artisanal Italian production, predating the Hermès Birkin’s introduction in 1984, yet echoing its same equestrian-travel silhouette.

Designed for elegant hand-carry, it features no shoulder strap or side D-rings, affirming its original purpose as high-end travel gear. All original hardware is intact, including a brass turn-lock clasp, removable key clochette, two keys, and paper-labeled GUCCI luggage tag, each reinforcing the bag’s authenticity and historic significance.
Material/Construction: Crafted from vegetable-tanned saddle leather, this bag has aged into a rich chestnut brown with warm undertones and a natural patina. The outer body is firm and structured, reinforced by leather piping, hand-stitched seams, and brass hardware. The flap is secured by two buckle-fastened leather straps. The interior is fully leather-lined and includes one large satin-lined zip pocket. All structural elements-handles, hardware, seams, and stitching, are original and unaltered, showcasing Gucci’s early commitment to artisanal quality. The bag was made prior to the introduction of serial numbers, with only a heat-stamped “Made in Italy by Gucci” under the flap, along with the monogram 'S.P.'.
Condition: This piece is in excellent vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. The leather surface shows natural scuffing, creasing, and darkening consistent with over 60 years of use, no refinishing has been done, preserving the authentic patina. Brass hardware has darkened beautifully but remains fully functional. There are two small surface tears at the leather hinge beneath the flap, neither affecting the bag’s use or structure. There is light cracking on top flat, handles and closure. Interior leather and satin is clean and intact; zipper pocket functions smoothly. Overall, the bag is structurally sound, stands upright on its own, and is ready to be carried, collected, or displayed. It has a gorgeous patina. Please inspect pictures closely.
