vintage | adolfo
the look
an 1980s adolfo scarf with a print combination that works better than it has any right to: a cream and tan houndstooth fills the center square, and a wide burgundy border runs the perimeter printed with a bold trompe l'oeil curb chain in orange/amber with pearl-set links. the chain reads almost three-dimensional against the wine ground. an orange stripe separates the two zones cleanly. adolfo is signed in-print at the lower right corner. adolfo de sarraga, known simply as adolfo, was a cuban-born designer whose conservative, elegant aesthetic made him a favorite of nancy reagan and the american establishment throughout the 1970s and 1980s; he retired from couture in 1993.
please note: visible fading and water marking along the top border edge.
