the look
a classic 1980s cotton bandana in warm cream with a dense black paisley print, made in the usa. the layout is the one everyone pictures: a fine chain of teardrops at the very edge, a wide border of large scrolling boteh anchored by open florets at the corners, a ruled frame, and a center field of small paisley and six-petal flowers scattered on a diagonal grid. the printed corner mark reads 100% cotton, made in u.s.a., rn 13962, with the crafted with pride star that dates it to 1984 or later, when domestic mills were still turning out bandanas by the millions. one edge is a true woven selvage and the other three are narrow machine hems.
all bandanas are gently cleaned and pressed. beyond that we let them be, so any fading, softening, or small marks of use stay exactly as they came to us.
dating: US RN registered identification numbers began at RN 13670 in 1959, so a printed RN sets the earliest possible date (holder lookup via the FTC RN database); the "Crafted with Pride in U.S.A." mark comes from the Crafted with Pride in U.S.A. Council, founded 1984.
