the look

a 1980s perry ellis silk scarf in a torn-paper mosaic print, cobalt and sky blue scattered with teal, magenta, red and gold, bordered in red on two sides and deep navy on the others. the perry ellis signature is printed into the design at the lower edge rather than sewn onto a label, which is how the house handled its scarves in this period. edges are hand-rolled. ellis launched his label in 1976 and built it on easy american sportswear, and the scarves are where the color-forward side of that work shows up loudest. at roughly 34 inches square it works as a head wrap, tied at the neck, or framed.
