a 1990s nicole miller bamboo print sheath in lustrous 100% silk, made in the usa. golden bamboo stalks scatter across a black ground on the diagonal, a graphic take on the conversational novelty prints that became nicole miller's signature. miller founded her namesake label in 1982 and built its reputation through the late 1980s and 1990s on bold printed silks, motifs that turned up on everything from neckties and boxers to dresses and grew genuinely collectible among her following. the bamboo belongs to that lineage of playful, themed silk prints, here given a clean, ladylike cut: a high bateau neckline, a darted, gently fitted bodice, a hidden center-back zip, and a straight knee-length skirt, fully lined for an easy drape. sleeveless and graphic, it reads equal parts mod and tropical.
