the look
this re-made tee centers a panel of mid-century harwood steiger screen-printed cotton in a brilliant cobalt-and-black palette, reworked into a one-of-one appliqué with custom machine-embroidered quilting. the print is a steiger classic: a dense, hand-drawn landscape of abstract desert iconography, geometric borders, and stylized flora rendered in his unmistakable mid-century southwest linework. the fabric itself is true vintage, printed in tubac, arizona, where steiger and his wife, sophie, produced small-batch silkscreens noted for their crisp lines and saturated color.
for this piece, the steiger panel was stabilized and machine-quilted in a loose, gestural style meant to echo the rhythm of his original linework. the quilting adds texture and lightly sculpted dimension without weighing down the tee. the panel is appliquéd onto a vintage black cotton t-shirt with a soft, washed-in feel and a relaxed, easy drape.
a bold, graphic way to wear a slice of southwest textile history.
