This re-made tee spotlights Harwood Steiger’s “Africa” print one of his most graphic, rhythm-forward midcentury designs. The panel features Steiger’s signature hand-drawn blockwork: clustered geometric motifs, tribal-inspired linework, biomorphic symbols, and repeating textures that reference the pan-African design influences he studied during the 50s and 60s. Every element in a Steiger print was screen-carved and pulled by hand in Tubac, Arizona, which gives his textiles their slight variations and unmistakable character.

We reworked a damaged piece of the original cotton into a framed quilted appliqué panel on a charcoal-washed 90s tee, preserving the bold turquoise-and-black contrast. The fabric has that soft hand Steiger collectors love, rotary-printed midcentury cotton with tight weave and high saturation, a look modern repros can’t replicate. The finished piece reads like wearable art: bright, graphic, and absolutely one-of-one.
