a stunning 1990s must de cartier silk carré, made in france: the field is parchment cream, printed with a trompe l'oeil scatter of cartier's most iconic jewels tumbled together with handwritten love letters and envelopes. a turquoise cabochon bib necklace pools at the center. around it: a diamond bee brooch, a panther brooch, an emerald cluster, a sapphire cocktail ring, a gold tiger figurine, a yellow heart pendant. a postage stamp in the lower right corner shows two reclining panthers. the script is loose and romantic, the jewels rendered with the saturated, illustrative precision cartier brought to all their silk accessories. the border layers royal blue and turquoise concentric stripes inside a panther-spot chain print, anchored at each corner by a gold tassel ornament. must de cartier was the accessible luxury line cartier launched in the 1970s to extend the maison's reach beyond fine jewelry, and the scarves produced under this label through the 1980s and 1990s are among the most collected vintage silk accessories on the market today, recognized immediately by the panther motif and the house's signature jewel imagery.
