a delicate antique cotton chemise from the 1910s, cut in a simple straight shift with no waist shaping. the neckline carries a scalloped eyelet trim with a raised rosette medallion pattern, worked in fine cutwork. the straps read as a later replacement, a plain satin ribbon in place of the original cotton binding, more a small practical repair than a flaw. plain cotton underslips like this were everyday wear before world war one, made to be worn and washed for years, which is part of why the ones that survive still feel this soft.
