the look
a delicate antique french two piece lingerie set, a camisole dress and matching bloomers, hand finished with scalloped picot edges and a hand embroidered "ad" monogram at the camisole's front. sets like this were part of a young woman's trousseau, hand marked with her initials before ready made labels were common, made from a fine lightweight cotton that was easy to launder and comfortable against the skin. the worked eyelet strap loops at the camisole and the wide, gathered bloomer leg are typical of the loose, unstructured lingerie worn under corsets and day dresses in the years before world war one.
please note: the bloomers' waist drawstring was added later; the surrounding construction is original. the pink is an old overdye of the original white or ecru cotton, not the original shade.
